Corrugated steel beam barriers (CSBBs) are traffic barrier systems designed to absorb impact and deflect vehicles away from a structure without causing catastrophic failure of the barrier or significant damage to the vehicle. They are constructed of high strength steel beams with corrugations that fold in on impact, allowing the system to absorb the energy of a vehicle while limiting the amount of damage done to both the barrier and the vehicle.
CSBBs are primarily used to protect critical infrastructure, such as bridges, highways, and power plants, from vehicle-borne attacks. These barriers are also often used to prevent large vehicles from leaving roads and highways. Compared to traditional concrete barriers, CSBBs are less likely to cause serious injury to drivers in the event of a crash, and are much more cost-effective to install and maintain. Furthermore, CSBBs can be quickly and easily reconfigured to change the size and shape of the barrier as needed.
